“FRAGMENTS: Less Evident Realities in Applied Archaeological Photography” by @socratismavrommatis on Thursday January 22 at 6pm at the Opening Gallery in Manhattan. The exhibition is part of the #GenerativeRealities group exhibition.
Co-organized by The Panayotis & Effie Michelis Foundation and Greece in USA, under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Culture @minculturegr this exhibition invites you to see antiquity in a new light.
Discover the art behind the archaeology. Through the masterful lens of photographer Socratis Mavrommatis, fragments—from the Acropolis to ancient pottery—become profound statements. Black and white reveals stark lines and symmetry, while color highlights the enduring texture and polychromy of time.
These are not just documentary images; they are a dialogue between photography, archaeology, and artistic vision, originally created for restoration work and scholarly publications.
