Greece in USA hosts Eleni Sikelianos

LIBRARY RESIDENCY × THE DELPHIC FESTIVAL: A LEGACY REIMAGINED

This summer, we’re honored to host Eleni Sikelianos (@elenisikelianos)—poet, visionary, and inheritor of an extraordinary artistic legacy—as she delves into her family’s groundbreaking past at the Library Residency in Athens.

🔹 Memory Rehearsal: Echoes of Delphi
Eleni’s new work traces the footsteps of her great-grandparents, Angelos Sikelianos and Eva Palmer, whose 1927 Delphic Festival reawakened ancient Greek drama as a living, communal ritual. Eva, a sapphic modernist and weaver of lost utopias, staged Prometheus Bound with barefoot choruses and handwoven costumes, while Angelos dreamed of Delphi as a beacon of global unity.

Now, Eleni gathers these fragments—queer histories, shattered inheritances, and the ecstatic chaos of art – asking: How do we rehearse the past to shape the future?

🔹 Why Delphi? Why Now?
The Delphic Festivals were a celebration of poetry, theater, and collective ecstasy. Nearly a century later, Eleni’s work resurrects their spirit, weaving Sapphic fragments, activism, and ecological urgency into a tapestry of memory and reinvention.

📅 Follow along as we explore readings, archival glimpses, and conversations bridging 1927 and 2025. The past is not silent—it’s a chorus waiting to be heard.
